Using birth control pills is so obvious these days. This is the first thing your doctor would prescribe for you if anything should be out of balance with your reproductive system or if you just wanted a more convenient life. It is considered as a perfectly safe choice and how convenient! But really? This is the biggest scandal in my opinion. Birth control pills are not safe and should not be taken no matter what.

Personal experience

I know from my personal experience how these pills changed me into generally more numb but more anxious person. At first I couldn`t put my finger on what`s going on. But after using them over a year I stopped and I would never consider taking those again. But I know so many people who are still taking them and have no plans of stopping. Even if I explain why. Human being is such an ignorant thing when it comes to making choices that require changing life style.

Doctors rarely discuss side effects when they prescribe them the contraceptive pill, adding to the myth that the birth control pill is completely safe and barely impacts on your mind and body. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Unfortunately, many women first start taking the pill as teenagers and don’t realize that as they get older that their health could be impacted from these hormonal imbalances over time.

Impact on the body

Long story put down short birth control pills affect everything in the body and mostly not in a good way at all. Please be aware of them and don`t coose convenience over your overall health.

Thyroid Hormones, which are responsible for almost every aspect in our bodies, they help us to be happy and healthy. They seem to cause to decrease the percentage of free T4. Free T4 is the version of the thyroid hormone that is bioavailable for the body to utilize .

Testosterone: Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) levels go up and testosterone levels go down. As SHBG binds to testosterone, it`s level is lowered. Testosterone is necessary for energy, mental clarity, healthy bones, confidence as well as strength and muscle building. Lower testosterone may also explain why many studies confirm that women who are taking a contraceptive pill may experience diminished sexual interest and arousal, reduced frequency of sexual intercourse and reduced sexual enjoyment

Natural Hormone Production: Your body has inbuilt mechanisms to try to maintain homeostasis (a natural body balance). It also has many feedback systems letting you know when levels of chemicals in the body are getting out of balance. For this reason, you will become insulin resistant if you eat a diet high in carbs and sugars, which can often trigger elevated blood sugar and insulin. The same thing happens when you are taking antidepressants that affect serotonin. Registering your body’s serotonin levels that have suddenly shot up, your brain will start shutting down your serotonin receptors, (thereby producing less serotonin naturally) to ensure that you don’t have issues from excess serotonin.

Menstrual cycle: When you are taking daily doses of synthetic hormones, your body registers that you are getting unusually high levels of estrogen and progesterone throughout your cycle. As your brain perceives an upset in your hormone balance, it will try to correct any excess by shutting down production of your natural estrogen and progesterone. This shut-off may be why some women complain that their menstrual cycle takes years to return to normal after they come off the contraceptive pill.

Fertility: danish research shows that the birth control pill significantly affects ovarian reserve – the number of immature eggs in a woman’s ovaries – which can be a predictor of future fertility.
Also, the pill can cause the shrinkage of the ovaries, which becomes between 29 and 52% smaller, with the biggest reductions seen in women aged 19- 29.9 years.

Partner choosing: according to research from the University of Liverpool, the pill may also disrupt a woman’s ability to choose a partner genetically dissimilar to herself, potentially increasing the risk of having a child with genetic abnormalities. Your skin micro biome can affect your attractiveness to a potential partner.  Meaning that, certain people have more compatible micro biomes on their body and the bacteria on your skin can send a signal to other people about your level of attractiveness or your level of bio-compatibility with them.

Sleep: these may be leaving women deficient in hormones like serotonin (which can improve mood) and melatonin (for better sleep). An estimated 20% of people are slow methylators anyway so adding the pill to that mix can be disastrous for their well-being, leaving them edgy and anxious all day long, then unable to get a good night’s sleep.

Depression: The University of Copenhagen in Denmark has studied more than one million girls and women aged between 15 and 34 over a 13 year period. They found a very clear link between using the bill control pill and suffering depression. Adolescent girls using combined oral contraceptives had an 80% increased risk of antidepressant use and those using progesterone-only pills had a 120% higher risk of being in antidepressants

Anxiety: When scientists at UCLA  compared brain scans of women using the oral contraceptive pill to scans of women who were experiencing their natural menstrual cycle. These researchers then found shrinkage in two key regions of the brain, called the orbitofrontal cortex and the posterior cingulate cortex:  The researchers believe that these changes may explain reports from some women who complain of feeling greater anxiety after they start using the birth control pill.

Nutrient Deficiencies: Women on the pill use up more of their nutrients when their liver is forced to metabolize these synthetic hormones while trying to filter excess estrogen from your body. This could cause a chronic drop in vitamins levels C and E as well as B complex vitamins including B1, B2, B5, B6, B9 (folate), B12. Birth control pills have a few different issues but a few other things they do is they can deplete folate, and lack of folate can disrupt your DNA metabolism.  So it can affect your ability to repair.  They definitely deplete pretty much every B vitamins, so B1, B2, B3, B6, B12.  You tend to be deficient in all of those and that lead to irritability, it can lead to insomnia, brain fog, fatigue, etc. and birth control pills have been shown to deplete those vitamins.  They also due to the way that they metabolize, deplete the zinc.  So they lower your immune system strength and the depletion of zinc can also increase insulin resistance, meaning that, you’re less likely to shove glucose and calories into – in the muscle tissue for example to be stored away for energy and instead get converted into fat.  They deplete magnesium, and that can lead to a lot of different mineral imbalances in the body in addition to the inability to properly metabolize calcium.  And then also they’ve been shown to disrupt the balance of healthy bacteria in the digestive tract, so we talked about this a little bit earlier, what that means, you may not be able assimilate nutrients quite as well, less immunity, more susceptibility to the overgrowth of bad bacteria or pathogens such as candida.

Gut Issues: For years women who have complained that being on the birth control pill made them gain weight were told this issue was all in their heads but be surprised. There is something that the doctors are not telling. Now it is well established that BCPs compromise insulin sensitivity and increase inflammation. Both of these factors are known triggers for weight gain.

Does this all make sense?

I really do hope, who ever reads this and is using these pills, starts thinking what they are doing to their body. Human body is a wonderful system and why give away it`s power to regulate itself to a package of pills.

This is a topic that recently took my attention as this is certainly something I was not thinking about. And nobody is talking about it either. This is not a mumbo jumbo, this is real. And this is bringing attention to electromagnetic radiation (EMR) – which is something to be really aware of.

If you have any metal in your mattress or base (e.g. the coils in a box spring mattress), that metal can act as an antenna that amplifies any FM or TV radiation of certain frequencies. The weak electromagnetic waves are captured and then amplified by any metal objects of specific length sized to match the wavelength of a specific frequency of electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Any piece of metal which has similar, half or one quarter of the wavelength of an electromagnetic wave of a specific frequency can act as an antenna. It doesn’t have to ‘look’ like an antenna to behave in the same way.

What are the evidences for this mattress problem?

Researchers noticed that in Japan, the rates of breast cancer and prostate cancer are much lower than in Western countries. A plausible reason for this difference in cancer levels could be that the beds are different. In Japan, futons are the usual bed of choice whereas spring mattress and box spring are more commonly used in Western countries. A futon does not have any metal in it, while a spring mattress contains a lot of metal inside. Thus, researchers are speculating that the electromagnetic field of a spring mattress in combination with a box spring could be causing an increased risk of cancer. 

Of course, there could be many other differences between Japanese and Western lifestyle besides the beds. Therefore, it is not 100% certain that the electromagnetic field of a box spring mattress is the main cause of the increased breast and prostate cancer rates in Western countries. 

However, there are some additional evidence linking electromagnetic radiation with cancer. One of these is the link seen by researchers who noticed an increased risk of melanoma in areas where there were a lot of FM or TV transmission towers. Such towers broadcast large amounts of electromagnetic radiation. 

This situation is a complex one and we need to be aware that there is still uncertainty over the correlation between cancer risk and electromagnetic radiation. A review of many studies suggests that the link depends on the type of cancers and the type of electromagnetic radiation. Thus, certain types of electromagnetic radiation may cause certain types of cancers, but not other types. 

In any case, we are concerned with eliminating the antenna effect off the mattress. Clearly this will be the safest thing to do.

How will electromagnetic radiation affect us?

Not everyone exposed to electromagnetic fields will go on to develop cancer. The situation is thought to be a very complex interplay of many factors, not solely based on exposure to electromagnetic radiation. For example, your overall cancer risk may involve additional factors such as whether you eat healthy foods, whether you have a genetic predisposition to certain types of cancers, your overall health, and so on. Yet, the evidence of the studies above suggests that electromagnetic radiation is one of these many factors. So, you need to be aware that your mattress may be harming you if it contains any metal.

How to fix this?

The good news is that this problem of electromagnetic fields is within your control and you can do your part to minimise exposure. This is because it’s not the small amounts of TV or FM radiation typically present in your room that you need to worry about. It’s the amplification of this radiation by your mattress (if it contains metal) that you should worry about. By changing to a safe mattress, you can avoid sleeping in an increased electromagnetic field.

How to pick a safe mattress?

You can eliminate this antenna effect when you select a mattress which contains no metal. Ensure also that your bed base is free of metal for the same reasons, of course.
